mLearning: What is it?

"mLearning," or leveraging mobile technologies to learn on the go, will impact digital learning over the next five years.  Using a mobile device such as a tablet or cell phone will make a huge footprint in the digital landscape by allowing learners to microtask (use small chunks of time - 5 minutes will waiting in line at the ATM) to learn. mLearning varies from eLearning in that it seeks to supplement rather than replace the prinicpal Online Learning Evironment (OLE) platform. A learner isn't just accessing the OLE via a mobile device. Generally, special apps are selected/created to complete the OLE. If a person is studying a World Language, for example, in addtion to the LMS, as a Virtual Teacher for GVL, I would encourage my students to download the free app Duolingo that gamifies learning a variety of languages while on the go in a fun way!
