Create 2.1.2 Using Web 2.0 Tools to Differentiate Teacher Instruction

ToonDoo (www.toondoo.com) is a quick and fun way to create storyboards. I created a short 3-frame cartoon and posted it for my students to view and translate into English. They had a choice to submit the translations via writing or via a digital recording.

I wanted the students to learn to enjoy the target language of Spanish outside of the confining use of vocabulary and grammar. Differentiation was key in giving them freedom in "how" they wanted to express themselves. Although it wasn't in the directions, one student created a ToonDoo comic strip as a response - done in Spanish at that! It was great especially since this was a Spanish 1 class.

Since humor can be subtle and challenging to transfer between languages, especially at the beginning levels, it was interesting to receive the translations. I highlighted a few, anonymously, to share with the class.  We had a teachable and laughter-filled moment!
