What is an Open Educational Resources (OER)?

Open Educational Resources are a game changer in the field of education.This digital resources made available through free open licenses leverage the power of the Internet to give equal access to  seemingly unlimited sources of information in all disciplines. In essence, if a person has access to the Internet, she can get a quality education for free! Institutions of higher education and schools around the globe make textbooks, teaching materials, video lectures and testing materials available for public consumption for free. The Internet is permitting and facilitating the democratization of the history of human knowledge.

What are the various Creative Commons licenses available?

 Attribution - the user of another's work must acknowledge the creator when publishing/reusing the creator's work

 Non-Commercial - the user of another's work is prohibited from making money for the creator's work, with the exception of the creator himself under the CC license (Note: a non-CC, aka "regular," commercial license would permit such a deal to take place between the user and the creator)

No-Derivatives - the user of another's work is prohibited from altering or touching-up the creator's original work without permission from the creator

Share-Alike - the user who has received permission to recreate (aka alter or retouch) the creator's original work must carry/use the same license type used by the creator
