Communicate 1.1.2 Laws of Communication

How can one refrain from violating FERPA guidelines in online communication?

FERPA was designed to protect a student's biographical information, address, phone number, e-mail address, behavioral conduct, et cetera. Online Teachers need to be mindful when communicating information with parents via e-mail. Grades should not be communicated via e-mail. A direct call or a video call would eliminate the chances of the information being intercepted and the student's privacy compromised.

What methods could be employed to verify that copyright is not being violated? Does copyright require that all work, images, words, and graphics must be original?

A good rule of thumb regarding copyright is to always cite the source. When it doubt, ask for permission to share or simply choice another source where citation is clear or permission has been granted. In this instance, not all work needs to be original. Sites like www.creativecommons.com and www.copyright.com are helpful in educating students and teachers alike when they want to share resources discovered over the Internet like articles, videos, podcasts, music, et cetera.
