Online Learning Environment

The Online Learning Environment (OLE)is comprised of two main elements: (1)the Student Information System (SIS) and the (2) Learning Management System (LMS). A description of the role and function of each is listed below.

Roles within  the SIS

Student - The person who decides to take the course and registers for it. The student is the primary benefactor. The entire OLE exists for the shared goal of the student's learning.

Facilitator - A member of the school's personnel, the facilitator handles the logistics of registration (payment, correct course selection, scope & sequence of scheduling). The facilitator serves as a resource for the student and is often present as the student works through the online course. School counselors and graduation advisers often occupy this role.

Parents - Parents are the daily facilitators who provide time & space for their student's to complete assignments and monitor their student's progress on a regular basis to offer guidance, encouragement and time management structure.

Teacher - This person is the main online resource for the student. He has a roster of students for whom he provides explanation of content, tracking of grades, responsive feedback to assignments, contact with parents and availability to students.

Administrator - The administrator communicates with the facilitator and monitors the overall learning environment according to established guidelines and policies.

Function of the LMS

The Learning Management System is the nexus of the online learning environment. It is the digital platform that connects all the players together.
