Navigate 2.1.2 Recorded Session

Recorded Session

Recording online synchronous sessions is a great way to create "video notes." Students who are unable to attend or need reteaching are empowered to steer their learning by reviewing/rewatching the lesson.

I experimented with the following options:

*Google+ Hangout - easy access (via URL or e-mail), screensharing, Google Drive as means of file sharing, 10 users max (FREE), video component a plus; drawback a separate screen capture feature is needed to record session

*ReadyTalk - access via URL, great for document presentation like powerpoints or slideshares with voice-over explanation, dashboard is easy to read for turn-taking and simple participatory feedback, 10 users max (base plan $25 a month)

*GoToMeeting - basically identical to Google+ but only allows 5 users max for the base plan costing $25 a month and no recording feature; my free trial did allow recording and up to 25 users but costs $39-$49 a month to maintain depending on payment option

There is no doubt that as a GVL Teacher synchronous instruction is a must. The platform choice really isn't as important as the ease and accessibility for the users. I look forward to the real-time interaction with my learners so that I can check the pulse with the aid of facial expressions and quick surveys/exit questions to gauge "how" their learning is progressing and what I can incorporate in future lessons to better assist them.
