Navigate 3.2.1 Tools for Deciding on an LMS

Many commercial and open-source LMS/CMS vendors are on the market. This blog will focus on top open-source vendors.

Moodle (K12, Higher Ed, Business)
Sakai (K12, Higher Ed)
OLAT (K12, Higher Ed)
ATutor (K12 - especially designed for the visually impaired and disabled learner)
Google CloudCourse (Higher Ed, Business)

Make a selection for what is the optimal LMS for the organization.

A school's budgetary constraints naturally influence its selection of an LMS/CMS. Many times open-source software is a more economic and viable option than a commercial version. Functionality features, user experience and customer support (cloud-hosted or dowloadable on school's server, IT support provided or in-house IT required) all impact a school's efforts to implement and sustain an LMS.

Moodle is often a top choice for school's on a budget. With training, it is easy to navigate for students and instructors and can be readily adapted for K12 and Higher Ed. A commercial version Joule is available for businesses.
