List five time management tools and describe their
use and relevance to the online world. Does the tool relate to personal,
professional, or a combination of both?
1) Online Calendar - An e-calendar is portable and can easily be shared with others. Some are accessible offline line. Appointment invitations/events can be e-mailed/texted or with some calendar systems, you can manage what is viewable as availability options and have the invitee choose from those times. Google Calendar and Calendly are tools for personal & professional use.
2)Note-taking System - Having portable notes is a must. Since we come across information in a variety of places, a system that allows you to import photos, screenshots, documents, URLs, etc is needed. Evernote and OneNote are options each has an app for Apple and android devices. Evernote has a steeper learning curve but OneNote is intuitive to use. (both personal & professional uses)
3)Portable Device - Tablet/iPad, laptop and cell phone are all devices that allow you to access the Internet on the go. This is a super time saver! Now all those small chunks of "down time," 15 mins here, 25 mins there can be used to microtask, chipping away at a more time-consuming project. (both personal & professional uses)
4)App - This used to be a "short cut" to a website's features. Now, many times apps are entities within themselves. Pomodoro Technique and Toggl are time management apps that are easy to use for chunking time and tracking time usage. (both personal & professional uses)
5)Alert/Reminder - Mobile device reminders are so helpful. A task can consume your attention so it is helpful to set a reminder so you aware that it is time to switch gears. Likewise being notified with an alert that "X" has arrived helps with time management. Remind 101 and Celly and basic device alarms are great. (both personal & professional uses)
All of these tools can be utilized to connect stakeholders and to streamline processes for the world of online teaching.
