Acceptable Use Policies (AUP) already exist for Georgia Public Schools (for its staff and for its students). Georgia Virtual Learning, as an extension of this brick and mortar institution, is subject to these same rules and regulations as a Digital Learning Community. Adjustments will be made to tweak policies so that they apply to GVL's online nature but the essence and the importance of adherence to the AUP are the same. The need to adhere to the AUP might be greater in the DLC since there isn't the element of physical interaction amongst its community members so the importance of "respecting the DLC and making it a nice place to interact" is that much greater.
As a teacher for GVL, just like any traditional classroom teacher, I am responsible for distributing the AUP in the form of the school's code of conduct manual/document. A student signs the last page and submits it to the instructor in the physical classroom. Online, it might require a student confirming receipt of and agreement to the manual/document. As a teacher, it is my responsibility to support the school's AUP and address students when there is an infraction. The AUP clearly states the guidelines and consequences for a host of offenses for the students and parents to be aware of in advance. If I have any questions as a teacher that aren't addressed in the code of conduct manual/document, I have my online colleagues and supervisor to assist me.
