Digital Feedback enables the online learning environment to foster collaboration and community while offering efficiencies for timely communication and quality feedback.
A few digital tools are showcased below.
Synchronous Sessions are real-time lessons that enable students and instructor to interact with the aid of video and audio (video conferencing) working simultaneously. Options include Skype, Adobe Connect and Google Hangout. Voki appears to have expanded its services to offer this is an "animated/avatar" setting.
Newsletters are the key communicative component that links all the stakeholders (students, teacher, parents & local school administration personnel). More important than the frequency with which it is sent is the quality of the content. Many times less is better when visual imagery can be just as effective as words, take up less space and is more eye-catching. Updates can be inserted using neat tools like Blabberize and Goanimate.
Audio files, in my opinion, are the crux of effective, specific and prompt feedback for student work. Teachers can access a variety of tools that offer this service. Hearing the teacher's real voice creates a more authentic experience for the learners. Vocaroo and Audioboo are suggestions.
Reading about all of these technologies makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. I can't wait to try it all and see what my students like best! As a Virtual Teachers for GVL, I have to be an educator who embraces change and boldly treads into areas of unfamiliarity to best serve my students who are a generation which demands interactive learning. That's not a bad thing at all.
